Bordeaux - Mérignac Airport is an airport that serves the French city of Bordeaux. It is situated in the Department Gironde and is the largest of the Airports in the south-west France region. It is located in the town of Mérignac, 10 kilometers west of Bordeaux, and is easily accessible from the ring road around Bordeaux It is ranked 6th in France as a destination for passengers. Bordeaux Airport is also an important hub for all of the Air France Iberian connections. The facility handles a throughput of around 3.5 million yearly passengers and contains one terminal with two sections, Hall A and Hall B, which are connected by a covered walkway. Hall A serves international flights, while Hall B handles domestic flights. In addition to almost a flight per hour to Paris and daily flights to the major French cities, the airport offers daily and weekly flights to a large number of European and international destinations. Airport facilities include a number of bars, shops and restaurants, as well as travel agencies and tour operators. ATMs and bureaux de change are also available. Internet facilities are available in Departures. The airport has good facilities for disabled passengers. Car rental also operates from Bordeaux airport. There are four parking areas at the airport. The airport sees a multitude of tourists coming into the Bordeaux Mérignac area, as well as people on business and those simply making on-going connections. In view of the rapid growth of low cost air traffic, Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is planning a dedicated low cost airline terminal, which is scheduled to open at end 2009. It will be able to handle 2 million passengers a year, which is the forecast traffic by 2017. At this point, it should account for 40% of total traffic through Mérignac.
